Preserving a family heirloom

A client brought her Grandfather's cherished compass. She recalls childhood days fishing the streams of Minnesota with her Grandfather. She wanted to do something other than put the compass in a cabinet or drawer. She wanted to wear. I could strongly relate as I use to fish with my Grandfather.

I designed and built a housing for the compass that could be worn as a pendant. The spiral design around the perimeter represents eternity. The pendant is Sterling Silver and 18k Yellow Gold. We made a 36 inch chain in Sterling Silver and 18k Yellow Gold. It is long enough for her double it over and still pass through the bail. We put a Fleur de Lis on the bail which represents the "Flower of Life". The compass needle is free to move. The back of the pendant is engraved with personal information. It was truly a pleasure making this piece.
